Research and Development of Science
This main group includes three types of research and development activities: (1) basic research, which is theoretical and experimental work primarily aimed at gaining new knowledge from the fundamental foundation of observed phenomena and facts, without the application of these facts or the use resulting from them, (2) applied research, which is original investigation carried out in order to gain new knowledge, primarily aimed at specific practical purposes, and (3) experimental development, which is systematic work resulting in knowledge gained from research and/or practical experience, aimed at producing new materials or services and improving the substance of what has been produced or installed. The experimental research and development activities in this main group are divided into two categories: natural and engineering sciences, and social and human sciences. This main group does not include marketing research.
