These institutions can operate conventionally or based on Sharia principles. The types of businesses conducted by microfinance institutions are carried out by both conventional microfinance institutions and Sharia microfinance institutions, which are regulated and supervised by the Financial Services Authority (Otoritas Jasa Keuangan).
