Material Recovery

Material Recovery includes activities related to the processing of waste and other materials into secondary raw materials. Material recovery activities involve the separation of recyclable materials from waste, including non-hazardous and hazardous waste (B3 waste), as well as the separation and sorting of materials from mixed recyclables such as paper, plastic containers, and metals. The processing may involve chemical changes and mechanical reduction processes. This category does not encompass the manufacturing of new end products from secondary raw materials (recycled materials), as that falls under the manufacturing industry category (C).
